Beckwith Honored with Wing at Central Michigan Mary Ann Beckwith, professor of art in the visual and performing arts department, has had an art gallery named in her honor, thanks to a donation of artwork from Arlee Tampas, a Central Michigan University alumna, and Pete Tampas, former faculty member in the School of Technology. The Mary Ann Beckwith Gallery, in the new Education and Health Services building on the Central Michigan campus, is so named "because of all she has taught me and others about papers, artists, techniques," said Arlee. "And she shares her knowledge so freely with everyone in the community." Beckwith Receives Watercolor Honors Mary Ann Beckwith was elected to the Watercolor Honor Society of Watercolor USA, one of only 200 or so honored since the organization's founding in 1962. Beckwith Receives Frederic Albrecht Award Mary Ann Beckwith received the Frederic Albrecht Award for her painting, "Longing," during the American Watercolor Society's 140th Annual Exhibition in New York City, a four-week event which began on March 27. READ MORE. (PDF, 62 Kb) |
Mary Ann Beckwith is equally a painter and teacher with a passion for both. She is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, Allied Artists, Watercolor Honor Society of Watercolor USA, International Society of Experimental Artists (Nautilus Fellow), Society of Layerists in Multimedia, Transparent Watercolor Society of America, and many state and regional societies.
She is the author of Creative Watercolor: A Step by Step Guide and Showcase and her work has been featured numerous books on watercolor.
A professor of art at Michigan Tech University, in the scenic and rugged Upper Peninsula, she brings the arts to engineering and science students. Mary Ann has twice been the recipient of the university's Distinguished Teaching Award
