"The Brush and Beyond"

A Workshop in Experimental Watermedia Techniques

The "Brush and Beyond" Workshop will be an art altering experience! The energy filled days will explore creative methods of watermedia application, including texturing and the building of layers of paint. Participants will be exposed to new techniques and materials that will allow them to better express their visions and ideas through their paintings. The methods taught and materials utilized will be suitable for both representational and abstract imagery. Demonstrations and discussions will encompass and focus on composition and design, how to recharge your work, sources of inspiration and the business of being an artist. Each day will include plenty of time for painting and optional critiques.

The heart of the workshop will be to develop a strong sense of style in water media and mixed media while emphasizing the creative approach to making images. New tools will be constructed from commonly found elements and materials. For example, through exposure to the various, new materials and techniques each workshop attendee will find themselves better expressing their individual ideas and visions in their work. Demonstrations and discussions will include exploring mixed media, approaching the subject with a fresh eye toward composition and design.

Finally, throughout the workshop the business of being an artist, including setting goals and priorities will be discussed. Each participant will discover how to become "inspired" and how to network as an artist.

Each day’s schedule will allow for plenty of painting time. This workshop promises to be lively, energetic and best of all fun filled!
